**2021 New York City Mayoral Primary and a Glimpse into the 2025 Election**

The political landscape of New York City has seen significant changes over the past few years, with the 2021 mayoral primary setting the stage for the current political climate. In this primary, Eric Adams, the then-Brooklyn Borough President, emerged victorious, focusing on public safety and economic recovery.

Fast forward to the 2025 election, and the race is heating up. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, running as an independent, faces stiff competition. Democratic socialist Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani, who unexpectedly won the Democratic primary, is another major contender. The founder of the Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa, and former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running an independent campaign after losing the Democratic primary, also join the fray.

Key issues in this election include public safety, economic recovery, governance, and social issues. The primary has attracted significant attention and interest, both locally and nationally.

On the first day of early voting for the 2025 primary, more than 30,000 New Yorkers had cast their votes, almost double the number from the first day of early voting in 2021. The first debate for the 2025 mayoral race garnered over 725,000 viewers, a 47% increase compared to the 2021 mayoral primary.

Former New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer recently joined a get out the vote rally hosted by the West Side Democrats. The event took place at the National Action Network headquarters in Harlem. Rep. Greg Meeks spoke at the event, stating that the world is watching the upcoming mayoral election in New York City.

The primary now seems to be narrowing to a two-person race between former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and democratic socialist millennial Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani. Half a dozen other contenders are making a final push in the race, hoping for a miracle in a race that's already seen numerous twists.

During the get out the vote rally, Stringer echoed his recent talking point that New Yorkers don't need to choose between experience and vision. He took the opportunity to level a jab at one of his fellow candidates without naming them directly. The Rev. Al Sharpton, who was present at the event, called for a mayor with "backbone."

As the primary election approaches, candidates and their teams are actively engaging with voters, visiting poll sites, church congregations, supporters, and participating in protests and parades. The early voting period will go until June 22, ending two days before primary Election Day.
