Booming Interest in Specialties at Omsk Universities

In the 2025 admission campaign in Omsk Oblast, Russia, a significant rise in applications and entrance scores has been observed, driven by growing interest in popular specialties. This trend aligns with a nationwide focus on medical and other high-demand fields.

At Omsk State University (OmSU), engineering specialties have garnered considerable attention among school leavers this year. The university received a total of 6,080 applications and admitted 579 applicants to budget-funded places.

Meanwhile, OmGADI has seen a 20% increase in the average entrance score, with a total of 3,305 applications received. The most popular specialties at OmGADI include Architecture, Construction, Transport and Technology, Informatics and Computing, Automation of Technological Processes and Production, and Ground Transport and Technology.

Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU) has experienced a remarkable surge in applications, with over 24,000 applications received, a 39% increase from 2024. Of these, 1,853 students were admitted to budget-funded places for undergraduate and specialist programs. The average entrance score at OmSTU has risen significantly, from 165 to 187.

The rise in entrance scores can also be seen at Omsk State Pedagogical University (OmGUPS), which received 15,000 applications, a 50% increase from last year. For budget-funded places, the university received 11,000 applications.

As for medical education, Omsk State Medical University remains a sought-after institution, with medical specialties being among the most popular due to the high demand and recognized quality of education. While specific application numbers and entrance score statistics for 2025 in Omsk Oblast are not available, Russia’s broader trends show a rise in competitiveness in medical education.

Other Russian universities with strong medical programs attracting high international enrollment include Orenburg State Medical University, Tambov State University, and Samara State Medical University, which offer MBBS taught in English medium. These trends reflect regional competition, making medicine and allied health courses particularly popular.

Looking ahead, the planned opening of Omsk Higher Military School in 2028 as part of Russia’s military educational expansion indicates increased strategic investment in military specialties in the region.

Universities in Omsk Oblast will continue to accept documents for master's, postgraduate, and commercial programs until the end of summer. Despite the increased competition, prospective students are encouraged to apply and pursue their academic goals in the region.
