Apprenticeships Gain Traction as Promising Career Path, Says HCCC President

Apprenticeships are gaining traction as a popular and beneficial career path, according to Christopher Reber, president of Hudson County Community College. These programs address skills gaps and offer excellent job opportunities.

Hudson County Community College plays a significant role in this trend. It partners with local employers and organisations like the Hudson County Department of Family Services and Reintegration for programs such as JUSTice. The college also works with the New Jersey Reentry Corporation and is part of Future Ready New Jersey, a statewide coalition aligning education with employer needs.

Apprenticeships trace back to ancient times and were significantly shaped by industrialisation in the 20th century. Today, educators blend paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. Two-year institutions like HCCC serve as a hub, offering flexible programming and strong community connections for both apprentices and employers.

Apprenticeships, backed by HCCC and other institutions, provide a promising route to jobs while addressing skills gaps. This approach, combining classroom learning with on-the-job training, benefits both apprentices and employers.
