CII Unveils 2047 Vision: Global Leadership Through Sustainability and Internationalisation

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has marked India's 75th Independence anniversary by unveiling ambitious plans for the nation's future. The organisation, which represents India's business community, has set a vision for global leadership by 2047, focusing on growth, competitiveness, sustainability, and internationalisation. Key to this is the establishment of the 'Centre for International Intervention', founded in 2022 to bolster international research and enhance knowledge for global business interventions.

CII's roadmap for sustainability includes developing a decarbonisation strategy and targeting a green building footprint of 10 billion square feet. This commitment aligns with the organisation's goal to enhance India's competitiveness by improving the ease of doing business. To facilitate this, CII will introduce a Cost of Doing Business (CoDB) Index.

The Indian economy is showing robust signs of recovery, with a GDP growth rate of 8.7% for 2021-22. CII aims to build on this momentum, targeting high growth rates that are sustainable and can meet the country's aspirations for 2047. To achieve this, CII will launch ASPIRE, a technology promotion program, and increase R&D spending to 4% of GDP by the same year. The organisation also plans to boost the investment to GDP ratio and ensure robust consumption for long-term growth.

CII will internationalise Indian industry by setting up new foreign offices and establishing the Centre for International Research. This aligns with the organisation's theme for 2022-23, 'Beyond India@75: Growth, Competitiveness, Sustainability, Internationalisation'. CII will also provide analytical policy inputs, facilitate access to capital, and engage in skilling and employment initiatives.

With India celebrating 75 years of Independence, CII has outlined a vision for global leadership by 2047. This includes promoting sustainability, enhancing competitiveness, and internationalising Indian industry. The organisation's plans, such as the Centre for International Intervention and the ASPIRE technology program, are poised to drive India's economic growth and ensure it meets its aspirations for the coming decades.
