Coded Minds Empowers Pakistani Workers for GCC Jobs
Coded Minds, a Dubai-based initiative, is equipping Pakistani blue-collar workers with essential skills before they depart for jobs in the UAE and other GCC states. The first session in Gujranwala, Punjab, trained 273 Pakistani workers, marking a significant step towards preparing Pakistani labourers for international employment.
Nabeel Ahmed, a 24-year-old electrician from Lahore, attended the session. He found the training invaluable, stating it helped him understand the realities of working abroad. Amna Khaishgi, a spokesperson for Coded Minds, believes such training should be mandatory for all Pakistani workers heading overseas. She explains, 'Our sessions aim to bridge the skill gap and prepare Pakistani workers for multicultural workplaces and GCC labour laws.'
Over 2.5 million Pakistanis are currently employed across the GCC, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia being top destinations for remittances. However, labour rights groups highlight challenges faced by Pakistani workers, including adjusting to new environments and understanding contracts. Zafar Masud, president of the Bank of Punjab, supports the initiative. He notes, 'The programme safeguards remittances and encourages the use of formal banking channels.' The training covers topics such as remittances, GCC labour laws, social media use, multicultural workplaces, and health and hygiene.
Coded Minds' pre-departure training is empowering Pakistani blue-collar workers with crucial knowledge and skills. With over 5,000 Pakistani workers already trained, the initiative is making a tangible difference in preparing Pakistani labourers for international employment. As more Pakistani workers benefit from this programme, it is hoped that challenges faced by Pakistani migrant workers in the GCC will be significantly reduced.
