Hawaii State Board of Education Hosts Community Engagement Meetings on Early Childhood Education
The Hawaii State Board of Education is conducting community engagement meetings next week in Hawaii County, aiming to gather input from educators, parents, and community members regarding potential statewide changes in early childhood education.
These meetings, which are part of the National Association of State Boards of Education's Early Childhood Education State Network, will run from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Each day, there will be two sessions: the first on Tuesday, August 19, at Chieffess Kapi'olani Elementary School in Hilo, and the second on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Ka'u High School and Pahala Elementary School in Pahala.
The focus of these meetings is to discuss the early childhood workforce, with a particular emphasis on issues related to the expansion of prekindergarten classrooms and workforce challenges in servicing these classes. The meetings will also include discussions about graduation requirements for the early childhood workforce.
The meetings are not just for discussions, but also for data collection and reporting purposes. The insights gained from these meetings will be used to inform data collection and reporting on the early childhood workforce.
The meetings will involve interactions with board members and Department of Education staff. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions, and provide feedback on public education improvement and support across the Big Island.
