District officials in Sun Praire unveil the interim head at West High School
In a series of events that have shaken the Sun Prairie Area School District, Robert Gilkey-Meisegeier, the former dean of students at Sun Prairie West, was arrested in July on federal charges of possession of child pornography and child exploitation. It has been revealed that students at Sun Prairie West were among the victims of these heinous acts.
The arrest of Gilkey-Meisegeier may have contributed to the continued absence of Principal Jennifer Ploeger. In her place, Ed Ford, an Associate Principal within the same school district, stepped into the role as the acting principal of West High School a few weeks ago.
Ed Ford has expressed gratitude for the leadership opportunity and stated that he has full confidence in Peg Shoemaker, who has been appointed as the new acting principal of West High School. Shoemaker, with four decades of experience in K-12 education, previously served as the principal of the Middle School in the Sun Prairie Area School District.
Ford plans to return to his Associate Principal position once an acting leader is appointed, but for now, he is committed to supporting Shoemaker. He believes her role as acting principal is intended to help strengthen the leadership team during Principal Ploeger's continued absence.
An internal investigation is underway to determine if any district employees failed to perform their duties in relation to the case. It is possible that an employee may be put on administrative leave during this investigation. The status of Principal Ploeger's employment has not been stated by district officials.
Ed Ford has expressed his support for Shoemaker, stating that she is well-equipped to lead the school through this challenging time. Meanwhile, an ongoing police investigation is being conducted regarding the case.
The community of Sun Prairie West High School is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The school district is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students and staff.
