Marion Gray's Journey in Outdoor Learning at Lackford Lakes

Marion Gray is immersed in a vibrant world of learning, enjoyment, and growth at Lackford Lakes, where she serves as an intern focusing on outdoor education. Her role involves supporting and engaging with children, facilitating experiences that encourage exploration and interaction with nature.

One of Marion's recent initiatives was a Hedgehog care course, where she learned how to handle a hedgehog and identify potential health issues. This hands-on experience is part of her mission to foster an appreciation for the environment and its inhabitants among the young learners.

The activities at Lackford Lakes are designed to cater to children of various ages, ensuring everyone has a memorable and educational experience. The babies were particularly fascinated by sensory materials for play, while older children enjoyed outdoor activities such as a tree swing and mud kitchen.

Marion has also been active in organising events like the Bio Blitz, where children were excited to discover living organisms on their site. Unfortunately, the Bio Blitz had to be halted due to rain, but the spirit of exploration and discovery remained undeterred.

In addition to the Bio Blitz, Marion has met with groups such as Wild Tots and Wild Babies, and the Weekend Wildlife Club. During these meetings, the children learned about hedgehogs, created hedgehog collages, and discussed materials for building dens.

Lackford Lakes is a bustling location with various activities happening. The internship provides opportunities for children and young people to learn and play outdoors, offering them chances for exploration, play, and creative and critical thinking.

Marion Gray expressed hope that her 6-month internship will not pass too quickly, as she continues to explore outdoor learning opportunities to its fullest. Through her work, she is making a significant contribution to creating an educational setting where children can learn about wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation in a practical and enjoyable way.

  1. Marion Gray's passion for outdoor learning extends beyond Lackford Lakes, as she envisions implementing a 'forest school' lifestyle for home-and-garden settings, encouraging lifelong learning and education-and-self-development through outdoor-living experiences.
  2. In the realm of lifestyle choices, Marion promoters an educational-and-self-development focus that advocates learning from nature, embedding the principles of 'forest school' in the daily lives of children and families, fostering a love for the environment.
  3. Embracing the principles of learning, discovery, and environmental appreciation, Marion Gray encourages a transition from conventional education towards a more holistic 'home-and-garden' based 'forest school' lifestyle, paving the way for a future of lifelong learning in outdoor-living environments.
