DUSU Election 2025: Counting of Votes Starts, ABVP and NSUI in Close Competition
Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) Elections of 2022: A Shift in Traditional Campaigning and a Contested Race
The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections for 2022 took place on Thursday, marking a significant change in the way student groups reached out to voters. For the first time in several years, college and hostel walls remained free of posters and graffiti due to strict enforcement of anti-defacement measures during the campaign.
This year's race for the DUSU elections is a closely contested one, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Congress-backed National Students' Union of India (NSUI) vying for the president's post. The ABVP's candidate is Aryan Maan from the Department of Library Science, while the NSUI's candidate is Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, a postgraduate student of Buddhist Studies.
The eligibility for the DUSU elections has been extended to third-year students for the first time under NEP rules, and the contest features 21 candidates contesting for the four main posts. The candidates must have at least 75% attendance to qualify, according to a recent Delhi High Court ruling.
In an unfortunate incident reported by Outlook News Desk, the DUSU Head's office was defaced with cow dung, with the classroom wall being smeared for 'cooling'. A separate report by Outlook News Desk also confirmed this defacement.
Voting for the DUSU election took place in two shifts, and the election counting began on Friday morning. The voter turnout for the DUSU election was a marginal increase compared to last year's figures, with a total of 39.45% of the students participating.
PTI also reported on the DUSU campaign, but there are no search results available that provide information about candidates running for the President of the Delhi University Students' Union in 2025 alongside Joslyn Nandita Choudhary from NSUI.
In a historic move, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and All India Students' Association (AISA) have declared an alliance for the DUSU polls, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of the university.
The campaign for the DUSU elections was conducted under the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines, which strictly enforced anti-defacement measures, ensuring a clean and fair election process. The results of the election are eagerly awaited, as the new student body is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Delhi University.
