Educators recognized for outstanding classroom performance

Congrats, mates! The Pro-Rector for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Susanne Buch, has beamed with pride, handing out awards on behalf of the university honchos. The Teaching Lion award honors teachers who push studious adventures beyond the books, deliver keen insights, and spark student growth. The selection process was a toughie once more, thanks to the plethora of delightful classes gracing Bergische University Wuppertal. "Our hearty congrats go out not just to this year's champions but to all educators contributing massively to the teaching quality at B.U.W." Buch expressed.

A whopping 15,000 euros purse is up for grabs, exclusively earmarked to amp up top-notch teaching efforts. This could mean extra student helping hands, resources, or educational bash escapades.

The Teaching Lion conquerors:

  • In the 50+ group – each pocketing 5,000 euros: Dr. Lisa Kluemper (Social Psychology and Personality Psychology) and Dr. Antonius Weixler (Modern German Literature Studies),
  • In the 10-49 gang – bags of 2,000 euros: Dr. Björn Beele (Inorganic Chemistry),
  • For the Innovation Prize – worth 3,000 euros: Prof. Dr. Andreas Kalweit (Manufacturing & Material Science). This award is given annually by the student councils for particularly innovative teaching. Kalweit stood out with his brilliantly rated courses, many focusing specifically on innovation development. As cited by the Faculty Council for Art and Design, "Kalweit carves out space for students to create innovative ideas via their own projects, tailoring his teachings to meet their needs."
  • In the Student Tutors category - 100 euro vouchers: Jacob Näckel (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences).

B.U.W. suddenly found itself inundated with 386 teachers entering 699 courses for the Teaching Lion accolade. Students glimmered through a whopping 15,696 surveys, rating lectures on structure, didactic aptitude, encouragement, interactivity, and overall impression.

The university service "Quality in Studies and Teaching" evaluated the feedback. A student panel then chose the lucky winners. All recipients received top grades of 1.1 to 1.5 overall.
