Enhanced water safety: St. Ingbert escalates swimming instruction

In the picturesque city of St. Ingbert, a unanimous decision has been made by the CDU, Free Voters, Greens, Family Party, and FDP to prioritize the safety and well-being of young families. A motion has been passed with the aim of improving swimming skills among children and young people, strengthening lifeguard training, and sending a clear message for more prevention, volunteering, and support for young families.

The city has pledged to annually provide special grants towards the achievement of two renowned swimming badges - the 'Seahorse' and 'Bronze' badges - starting from 2025. Each year, a grant of 4,000 euros will be allocated for these badges. In addition, an annual special grant of 1,000 euros will be provided for the acquisition or retention of the lifeguard badge (silver or gold).

The focus of these measures is to enable more children to swim safely and increase safety in baths and at waters through the training of lifeguards. The maximum additional annual expenditure is estimated to be up to 8,225 euros.

The clubs supported by the CDU, Free Voters, Greens, Family Party, and FDP in St. Ingbert, involved in swimming and rescue sport funding measures, are the St. Ingbert Swimming Club (Schwimmverein St. Ingbert) and the Rescue Swimming Club (Rettungsschwimmverein).

Successful graduates will be invited to the municipal sports awards ceremony, and a standardized form with parental consent for contact must be submitted for accounting purposes. An evaluation of the measures is scheduled for 2030.

In an effort to further support swimming sports clubs, a gradual increase in general association funding is planned, rising from the current 25% to 40% by 2028. The payment to associations will be performance-based, with the funds for the swimming badges distributed proportionally to associations that successfully issue these badges.

This comprehensive motion not only aims to improve swimming skills and lifeguard training but also to foster a sense of community and safety for families in St. Ingbert. The city's commitment to these measures demonstrates its dedication to the well-being and development of its youngest citizens.
