Erich-Kästner Comprehensive School honored as a "Healthy Educational Institution"

In the Herford district, a significant step towards promoting health and well-being among students has been taken. The "Healthy Schools in the Wittekind Circle" program, an initiative by the Wittekindkreis district administration, has been supporting schools in implementing health promotion and prevention activities.

The program provides an overview of contact points for advice on various aspects of growing up and teaching health. Renata Lleshi, who can be reached at 05221 13-2419 or r.lleshi@ourwebsite, is a key point of contact for schools seeking information about the program.

Schools that show a particular commitment to health and well-being are awarded a certificate recognising them as a "Healthy School." This year, more schools will be honoured, with the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School being one of them.

The Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School was awarded the "Healthy School in the Wittekind Circle" award in a recent ceremony. Pascal Kramer, a sports scientist and trainer, was present at the event. Kramer's "link moves" program, one of the activities supported by the "Healthy Schools in the Wittekind Circle" program, was particularly beneficial during stressful learning phases.

Through this program, Kramer led students in exercises designed to improve coordination, concentration, learning ability, and motivation. These exercises were found to be particularly beneficial during challenging academic periods.

In addition to the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School, other schools to be honoured this year include the Westerenger and Löhne-Obernbeck primary schools, as well as the Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg in Herford.

At the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School, various health-related topics have been addressed with the help of external experts. Topics such as dental health, sexuality, alcohol consumption, mental health, and smoking behaviour have been covered to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.

The award was presented by Dr. Isabell Schultheis, head of the district health department, and Renata Lleshi, project coordinator. Schools play a vital role in teaching children and young people about the importance of health and taking appropriate action. The "Healthy Schools" program offers free individual and group offers for students and teaching staff to further support this mission.

Health is considered a crucial prerequisite for successful learning, personal development, and social participation. By supporting schools in implementing health promotion and prevention activities, the "Healthy Schools in the Wittekind Circle" program is making a significant contribution to the well-being of children and young people in the Herford district.
