Facelift for the BEKI unveiled

Headline: Baden-Württemberg Celebrates 45 Years of Promoting Child Nutrition with Over 530 Certified Kindergartens

Baden-Württemberg, a German state known for its commitment to health and education, continues to prioritise nutritional education for children with the successful implementation of the BEKI initiative. The state-wide programme, now in its 45th year, has seen more than 530 kindergartens obtain the BEKI certificate, educating over 50,000 children, parents, and professionals annually.

The BEKI offerings are conducted by freelance nutrition experts, known as BEKI lecturers. The initiative's logo, part of the statewide umbrella brand "The Whole State at the Table. Good Nutrition for Baden-Württemberg", has been redesigned for its 45th anniversary, now featuring a pear in fresh state yellow.

Minister Peter Hauk expressed pride in the number of certified kindergartens and welcomed every additional kindergarten committing to a balanced diet and demonstrating this through certification. He emphasised the importance of nutrition education in the home, kindergarten, school, and childminding for inspiring children towards healthy and sustainable eating.

The BEKI portfolio includes parent events, school lessons, action days, and training for pedagogical and household professionals, teachers, and childminders. The State Center for Nutrition (LErn BW), which has been commissioned for the organizational and professional implementation and further development of the state initiative BEKI since 2019, plays a crucial role in these endeavours.

However, it's important to note that the State Center for Nutrition (LErn BW) is not part of the statewide umbrella brand "The Whole State at the Table. Good Nutrition for Baden-Württemberg". The Minister's statement does not specify any new initiatives or changes in the BEKI portfolio.

The Minister's statement also underscores the significance of a health-promoting diet for the cognitive development, concentration ability, and overall well-being of children. He did not mention any new target audience for the BEKI initiative, but emphasised its focus on children from the sixth month of life to the sixth grade.

For those seeking more information, the Ministry of Food, Rural Affairs, and Consumer Protection has a Press Office and a Citizen Liaison Officer for contact purposes. Their contact information is available on the ministry's website. Minister Hauk encourages everyone to visit the ministry's website for more details about the BEKI initiative and how to get involved.
