Friendship with Ghana Marks 10 Years of Supporting Teshie Children

The Bispingen-based association, Friendship with Ghana, is celebrating a decade of supporting children and youth in the Teshie neighborhood of Accra. Despite the challenges of poverty, with 60,000 street children and many families living below the poverty line, the association has made a significant impact.

Friendship with Ghana works closely with the Heneson-Reaching-Out-Foundation NPO for local support and information. Currently, they sponsor 52 children, with four more in need of patrons. The association ensures these children receive a good education at private schools, providing financial contributions of 15 to 30 euros per month. This covers school attendance, daily meals, and basic medical care.

The association also aims to establish internship contacts with small businesses for their sponsored children after school. However, school attendance is not possible for many children due to financial hurdles and lack of support. The cost of school attendance, including uniform, transport, meals, and books, is unaffordable for families living in poverty.

To mark their 10th anniversary, Friendship with Ghana is hosting a thank-you festival and intercultural exchange in the Accra area. Despite the challenges, the association remains committed to supporting and educating children and youth in Teshie, ensuring a brighter future for the community.
