FurryGreen & HKAWS Team Up to Feed Stray Dogs with Eco-Friendly Pet Food
Hong Kong-based sustainable pet food brand FurryGreen has teamed up with the Hong Kong Animal Welfare Society (HKAWS) to provide a portion of its dog food production to local shelters and stations. This collaboration aims to improve the nutrition and health of stray dogs in the region while promoting awareness of eco-friendly pet products and animal welfare.
FurryGreen, established in 2020, produces its pet food from upcycled ingredients that would otherwise end up in landfills. The company offers several varieties of sous vide pet food for dogs and cats, made from rescued vegetables, scrap meats, and other sustainable ingredients. This strategy not only reduces waste but also educates pet owners about giving 'ugly foods' a second chance. The company's products are free from fillers, additives, and preservatives, ensuring balanced nutrition for pets. A typical 100g bag contains one main vegetable and one main meat, providing a balanced meal for pets.
The Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department reports significant daily food waste, including both good and bad leftovers. Globally, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations estimates annual food loss and waste at 1.3 billion tons fit for human consumption and 1.6 billion tons of primary product equivalents. FurryGreen's efforts contribute to reducing this waste while providing high-quality food for stray dogs in Hong Kong.
FurryGreen's collaboration with HKAWS ensures that a portion of its pet food production goes directly to helping Hong Kong's stray dogs. By providing them with nutritious, eco-friendly food, the partnership improves the dogs' health and well-being. Moreover, it raises awareness about sustainable pet products and the importance of reducing food waste. Both organizations are known for their transparency and commitment to their causes, making this partnership a significant step towards bettering the lives of Hong Kong's stray dogs and the environment.
