Move-In Day at Fresno State Dorms: A Warm Welcome for New Students

On Saturday, August 16th, 2025, Fresno State student dorms played host to a vibrant and emotional move-in day. Approximately 1,200 to 1,356 new students were welcomed by student staff and school officials, creating an atmosphere filled with hugs, tears, and cheering from both students and family members [1][3].

Among the new students was Lillyanna Beltran, a Fresno State Freshman and Bay Area native. Despite her anxiety about moving to the Central Valley, Lillyanna finds the community at Fresno State to be nice [4]. Her anxiety stems from overpacking for her move, a common sentiment among many students and parents [2].

One of those parents is Janet Grimsley, an Arizona resident, who expressed concerns as a mother about her daughter's readiness for the new journey at Fresno State and her own readiness to see her daughter embark on it [3].

Fresno State is making efforts to create a welcoming environment for new students. This is evident in the logistical management of the move-in day, ensuring a smooth start for students on their on-campus journey [1][2][3]. Communication from Fresno State Housing before and after move-in emphasizes readiness to welcome students, provide keys, rooms, and foster community integration [5].

To further enhance the move-in day experience, a dance event is being organized for new students at Fresno State on Saturday night, intended to help them settle in and potentially meet others with similar experiences [1]. This social programming reflects Fresno State’s commitment to making the move-in day a positive, community-building experience for new students.

Erin Boele, the Fresno State housing director, described the emotions present on move-in day as varied. "It's a mix of excitement and nervousness," she said, "but we're here to support them every step of the way" [1].

Lillyanna Beltran, a new Fresno State student, finds the community at Fresno State to be a great opportunity for personal growth and learning, despite her initial anxiety about moving. Fresno State's efforts in education-and-self-development are evident in their welcoming environment and commitment to community integration, as seen during the move-in day and the organized dance event aimed at creating a supportive learning atmosphere for new students.
