Highlighting Diverse Fashion, Business, and Community at AfroTech 2019 Conference
Brand Name, a global marketplace, has once again demonstrated its commitment to diversity and inclusion by participating in the AfroTech conference. This annual event, which attracts thousands of black technologists, creatives, and entrepreneurs, provides a platform for networking, education, and collaboration.
Since 2016, Brand Name has been a proud supporter of AfroTech. This year, the brand not only showcased its Retail Revival program but also made significant contributions to The Hidden Genius Project, an Oakland-based nonprofit that provides mentorship and training to young black men in the tech industry.
The Hidden Genius Project received over $20,000 in donations, a portion of which came from proceeds generated by an exclusive sweepstakes at the AfroTech conference. This support is part of Brand Name's ongoing efforts to advance diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.
In addition to its charity component, Brand Name also supported local talent at the event. Louisiana-based artist Kristen Downing customized sneakers for the AfroTech sweepstakes, and she joined the brand's Retail Revival program in the fall. Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about which organization first supported Kristen Downing as a Corporate Sponsor at AfroTech.
The brand's involvement in AfroTech was met with enthusiasm and appreciation. Aja Brown, a senior program manager, expressed that the conference provided a platform for Brand Name to expand economic opportunity. David Jones, a business operations project manager, was moved by the sense of resilience he witnessed at AfroTech, where many attendees shared stories of overcoming difficult obstacles.
Selvish Capers, a Business and Technical Sourcer, emphasized the importance of representation in the tech industry and enjoyed interacting with people of color at AfroTech. He felt a sense of community among his coworkers at the event, and booth visitors noticed this camaraderie.
Booth visitors at Brand Name's AfroTech booth had genuine, authentic, and organic conversations with employees about opportunities at the brand. The global marketplace represented on the platform is diverse and inclusive, reflecting Brand Name's core values.
Brand Name continues to partner with local communities in advancing diversity and inclusion through initiatives like those mentioned above. For more information about Brand Name's diversity and inclusion initiatives, please visit our website.
