IG Wild beim Wild Urges Church to Reject Violent St. Hubertus Masses

IG Wild beim Wild, an environmental organization, has urged church representatives to disassociate from violent St. Hubertus Masses. The group argues that these events contradict Christian values and promote animal cruelty.

Theologian Julia Bielecki has spoken out against these masses, stating that they send a wrong signal by supporting hunters' killing of defenseless creatures. IG Wild beim Wild has strongly criticized the event, calling for the church to distance itself from hunting and its glorification.

The organization has publicly criticized the Catholic church Sankt Justus in Flums for its Saint Hubertus masses. A similar event featuring the 'Jagdhornbläser Bortelhorn' is scheduled in Pfynwald forest on November 3, 2025. IG Wild beim Wild appeals to the church to assume responsibility for creation preservation and respect for life, as Christianity is a religion of mercy and respect for life, with no biblical indication that Christ hunted animals.

IG Wild beim Wild's appeal comes amidst growing concerns about the impact of hunting on wildlife populations. Up to two-thirds of animals killed during drives do not die immediately, leading to prolonged suffering. Moreover, high hunting pressure causes earlier sexual maturity and faster reproduction, exacerbating wildlife population problems instead of solving them. The organization hopes that the church will respond positively to their appeal and help promote a more compassionate relationship with nature.
