Collaborative Education Project Launches Across the Fehmarn Belt
Initiative targets college-going youth, focusing on academic pursuits
The Hanseatic city of Lübeck and the Danish municipality of Næstved have announced the launch of the EU-funded Interreg project "MyWorld.Fehmarnbelt". This initiative aims to foster cross-border collaboration and cultural exchange among students and teachers in the Fehmarnbelt region, connecting northern Germany and Denmark.
Project Goals and Timeline
The project, set to run until 2026, is part of the "Fehmarn Belt Learning Region" project and has a budget of over 2 million euros, funded by the European Union. Its objectives include promoting multilingualism, intercultural competencies, and developing innovative teaching methods.
The project will officially commence in spring 2022, with a series of workshops, exchange programs, and collaborative projects planned over the next three years. These activities will focus on subjects such as democracy, sustainability, quality of life, and employment expectations.
Participating Schools
Schools from both Germany and Denmark will participate in the project. In Germany, schools like Gymnasium Fehmarn and Schleswig-Holstein regional schools from towns near the Fehmarnbelt, such as Neustadt and Lübeck, will be involved. Meanwhile, Danish schools from Lolland and Falster regions, as well as secondary schools specializing in cross-border studies near Rødby and Nakskov, will also take part.
Student Collaboration and Exchanges
One of the project's key initiatives is to engage students as youth ambassadors, encouraging them to participate in exchange programs and start projects that reflect the project's goals. For instance, over 40 students from the Baltic School in Lübeck recently visited historical buildings in Næstved and created graffiti to visualize their impressions and ideas.
Future Prospects
By the end of the three-year project, the learning and exchange modules will be made accessible to other schools, ensuring the project's sustainability and ongoing impact. The project will culminate in the Fehmarnbelt Days in June 2025 in Lübeck, featuring a public presentation and discussion of student visions for sustainable coexistence across the Fehmarnbelt.
