Interdisciplinary workshop showcases theatrical performances led by students, demonstrating their creative talents.
In the heart of October, from the 30th to the 10th, [Institution Name] hosted an interdisciplinary workshop that brought together students from various disciplines to explore the world of theatre. Led by the esteemed academician, actor, and director, Kuljeet Singh, this two-week event proved to be a transformative experience for all participants.
Six unique 20-minute plays were born from this creative endeavour: Jashn, B.B.C, Not Cinderella, Shubh Ashubh, Safar, and Samsara.
"Shubh Ashubh," a humorous play, comically explores superstitions, focusing on a woman navigating life situations through them. On the other hand, "Safar" is a play deeply rooted in emotion, incorporating the nine navarasas to add depth to its narrative. The play explores womanhood through seven poignant scenes, tackling challenges such as societal judgement and workplace biases, and concludes with a call for the protagonist to "write her own story," urging women to seize control of their narratives.
"Not Cinderella" offers a satirical take on the classic Cinderella narrative, incorporating a play within a play concept. Meanwhile, "B.B.C" tackles the facade of competition among multinational corporations, featuring mascots like McDonald's clown and 'Burger Queen.'
"Jashn" depicts the personal toll of war, using innovative shadow techniques and audio-visual techniques. The play "Samsara" integrates light and shadow work, live acting, puppetry, and a Shiv Tandav dance, theatrically exploring human struggles and drawing parallels between the Mahabharata and modern-day vices.
The workshop provided a holistic, hands-on experience in theatrical production to students from Fashion Design, Interior Architecture and Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Business Management, and Communication Design. The combination of collaboration, holistic problem-solving, and adaptability is paramount for success in the dynamic professional journeys our students undertake.
Over the course of these two weeks, students underwent remarkable transformations, delivering extraordinary performances that showcased their growth and creativity. This interdisciplinary workshop not only enriched their skills but also nurtured adaptability, preparing them for their future endeavours.
