Island schools receive financial boost from shopping events
In a heartwarming display of community support, five Big Island elementary schools recently received art and classroom supplies as part of an annual shopping spree.
Last month, Hilo's Ha'aheo Elementary School and Waiakea Elementary School, along with Kohala Elementary School, Waikoloa Elementary School, and Waimea Elementary School in Kailua-Kona, were the recipients of this generous initiative.
The shopping spree was made possible by the generous contributions of Hawaii Island resident Christy Logan, The Roberts Foundation, and The Key is Aloha. Local Walmart stores, including Kona Walmart and Hilo Walmart, also provided valuable support, with their teams working tirelessly to ensure the event's success.
Representatives from Hawaii County Mayor Alameda's staff were also present, offering their support for the cause. Community volunteers from various industries served as competition judges and referees, adding to the spirit of camaraderie and collaboration.
Each school received an average of $1,000 in art and classroom supplies, aimed at enhancing the learning environment and fostering creativity among the students. The shopping spree was held for the 10th year, marking a decade of continuous support for Big Island's educational institutions.
This was the fifth year that Hilo Walmart was involved in the shopping spree, demonstrating the store's commitment to the community. The event offered a chance to win one of three grand prizes, adding an element of excitement to the day.
The success of the shopping spree was due in large part to the contributions of the community volunteers, who played a crucial role in making the day a memorable one for the students and teachers.
