Japan's NII Revamps NACSIS-CAT/ILL for 1,300 Institutions
Japan's National Institute of Informatics (NII) is revamping its NACSIS-CAT/ILL catalog information service, used by over 1,300 institutions. The project, aligned with 'The Vision on Future Scholarly Information Systems (2019)', aims to enhance university library operations and digital transformation. The new service will be operational by 2023.
The new NACSIS-CAT/ILL will be built on OCLC's Controlled Bibliographic Service (CBS) for cooperative cataloging and interlibrary loan. Fuji Xerox, a Japanese system company, developed the interlibrary loan system for the new platform. The revamped service will adapt to international standards like RDA and BIBFRAME while retaining current functionalities.
The NII is also introducing a new electronic resource management service, powered by Alma from Ex Libris. This service will effectively manage electronic resources and foster a research environment. Both services are expected to launch in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
The NII's initiatives, set to launch in 2022 and 2023, will significantly improve university library operations and digital resource access. The new NACSIS-CAT/ILL and electronic resource management service will adapt to international standards, enhancing the research environment for over 1,300 institutions.
