KazRoboSport 2022 Preliminary Competition Held in Kokshetau
KazRoboSport-2022: Fostering Robotics and Innovation Among Kazakhstan's Youth
The KazRoboSport-2022 championship, held at the "Bolaşak Sarayı" Palace of Childhood and Youth, is a significant event in promoting robotics, STEM education, and innovation among students across Kazakhstan. This year's competition gathered over 70 teenagers and students aged 10 to 21, representing schools, colleges, and universities from various regions, including Kokshetau, Akkol, Astrakhan, Burabay, Bulandy districts, and more.
The event, which is part of an international robotics olympiad in Kazakhstan, consisted of two main roboticsport categories: Biathlon and Sumo. The championship aimed to select the best Akmolinsk students for international competitions, following international robotics olympiad standards.
Competing in Multiple Categories
The competition featured multiple categories or disciplines, such as robot soccer, line-following robots, sumo robots, rescue missions, and autonomous navigation challenges. Teams registered to compete in these categories, showcasing their robots' performances in specific tasks during the qualification rounds leading to the finals.
Robots were judged based on criteria such as speed, accuracy, design innovation, and problem-solving capabilities. The first-place teams will be part of the regional team to defend the region's honor at the republican final of the KazRoboSport-2022 championship, scheduled for October this year.
Enhancing STEM Education and Encouraging Innovation
KazRoboSport-2022 played a key role in strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education by providing practical experience. It motivated students to innovate and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering problems.
The event fostered a community of young roboticists and mentors, enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing among participants. By engaging in such competitions, students gained skills valuable for future academic and career paths in robotics, engineering, and technology sectors.
National Technological Growth and Career Development
Supporting grassroots robotics initiatives helps Kazakhstan nurture local talent critical for the country’s technological and industrial development. Yerkebulan Kurmangazy, a jury member, emphasised the importance of robotics in developing programming skills, initial knowledge of material resistance, and machine details.
He also noted the participation of students from both urban and rural areas in the qualifying round, highlighting the event's role in promoting equal opportunities in education and technology. Yerkebulan Kurmangazy believes that the skills gained from participating in the championship will be useful to the participants in their lives, regardless of the competition results.
At the end of the event, winners received diplomas and participation certificates. Yerkebulan Kurmangazy stated that all the children present at the event are the future of Kazakhstan. The qualifying championship is free, making it accessible to a wide range of participants.
In summary, KazRoboSport-2022 serves as an important platform for Kazakhstani students to develop robotics skills, showcase creativity, and prepare for future technological challenges while contributing to the growth of the national science and technology ecosystem.
