Park University News: Summer 2022 Edition
Michael Beach has been appointed as the new Vice President of Finance and Administration (VPFA) for Park University, effective July 18. Beach brings over 30 years of diverse financial and operational experience to the role, having worked in various industries. In his new position, Beach will oversee the financial, accounting, and administrative operations of the University. He will also be responsible for all fiscal services, including financial systems, reporting, and controls, as well as fiscal policies and regulations.
On the academic front, Park University hosted its first We Do Math camp for high school girls this summer. The camp aims to encourage and support young women in mathematics, fostering a love for the subject and preparing them for future academic and career opportunities.
The Parkville Campus volleyball programs have earned national academic awards. The women's volleyball program has received the award for the sixth straight year and 11th time in program history. The beach volleyball program has also been honored for the first time.
In the arts, Park University's Campanella Gallery will open its 2022-23 season with a unique art exhibit by Nancy Tilson-Mallett, a retired academic physician and fine artist. The exhibit, "Vision Quest: A Journey of Seeing," will be on display from Aug. 8 to Oct. 28, 2022, in the Campanella Gallery.
The Department of Nursing at Park University is preparing for an accreditation review of its pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing and registered nurse to BSN programs by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Third-party comments related to the standards of accreditation can be submitted to CCNE by Oct. 24, 2022.
In other news, Zach Zimny, a senior biology major, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from Alpha Sigma Lambda. Stephenie Price, '11, the chief of police in Bluffton, S.C., was featured in a story in South magazine. Betty Johnson, a senior business administration/management major, her daughter, and granddaughter were among the 300 recipients recognized for their academic achievements through the KC Scholars program.
Park University announces its Spring 2022 graduates, with a total of 963 students eligible to graduate. The graduating students come from the University's Parkville (Mo.) Campus and 40 additional campuses across the country, as well as online worldwide. However, a complete list of Spring 2022 graduates is not publicly available. To find the complete list, visitors are advised to check the official Park University website, contact the Registrar's Office or the Office of the Provost, or check local or university newspapers or archives for published graduation programs or lists.
Finally, Rob Duggan, MPA '21, started his role as chief of the Gilbert (Ariz.) Fire and Rescue Department. Brant Winn, Ph.D., assistant professor of education and director of field experience, co-authored an article titled "The Imagine Project: Using Expressive Writing to Help the Stress and Trauma of College Students." Ilya Shmukler, a Park University International Center for Music graduate student, was interviewed for a recorded segment that aired on Kansas Public Radio stations throughout the state. David Radzynski, who earned a graduate certificate in music performance/violin in 2014 from Park University's International Center for Music, was appointed concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra.
The Park University Commercial Underground was highlighted in a story on the KCUR-FM website. John Hamilton, Ph.D., professor emeritus of criminal justice administration, was interviewed for a story on KSHB-TV related to Kansas City area police departments evaluating security improvements.
The California Pacific Conference post-season tournaments for men's and women's basketball, and men's volleyball will be held at Park University's Gilbert Campus in 2023.
