Fashion Forward: Inspiring Tales from Entrepreneur Summit 2025

Dive into the thrilling testimonies and insights shared at our institution's inaugural Entrepreneur Summit 2025, a captivating event that brought together Fashion Business Management (FBM) students and industry titans. From budding start-ups to renowned brands, a diverse range of leaders graced the stage, shedding light on the triumphs and tribulations of entrepreneurship.

Moderated by (Prof.) Dr. Sunita Gupta Konwar, the summit's theme, "The Entrepreneurial Mindset - Skills, Strategies & Survival," sparked invaluable discussions on building an entrepreneurial spirit, strategic planning, and business resilience. Through firsthand accounts, students received a raw, unfiltered glimpse into the realities of entrepreneurship, serving as a reminder that every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Dr. Jitin Chadha, our institution's founder & CEO, kicked off the event by reiterating our institution's commitment to fueling innovation and exploration. "Entrepreneurship isn't merely about launching businesses—it's about crafting futures. Turning ideas into reality demands a vision, grit, and adaptability," he said, sharing insights from his journey in building our institution.

Kunaal Kumar, Managing Director of Modern Bazaar, shared his journey from a core-engineering background to a multi-category retail empire. His takeaway? "Your passion and dedication to what you do define your success," he emphasized, highlighting the importance of following your gut instinct.

Shivam Sahi, Co-Founder & COO of Blue Tokai, spoke about the promising Indian specialty coffee sector. "India produces high-quality coffee, yet most of it was exported. The challenge was to shift consumer perception and create a space for premium coffee consumption domestically," Sahi explained.

Ashish Dev Kapur, Founder of Whisky Samba, The Wine Company, and Antares, was open about his unconventional journey. He shared insights on recognizing market gaps and filling those spaces, saying, "If you have a pressing need, you can see there's a genuine gap that you can fill."

Vandy Mehra, Director of Study By Janak, spoke about overcoming challenges within a conservative family structure to carve a niche in the industry. "I started with just 1,000 square feet within the store. Today, at 16,000 square feet, the women's segment has set itself apart. It has been a fulfilling journey of staying true to my vision," she said.

Mohit Jain, Founder & CEO of Miraggio, addressed the perception gap between Indian and global brands, stating, "Brand experience is everything—from social media to retail and packaging. We focused on creating a strong brand identity, even though I came from a non-fashion background."

The panelists also delved into the evolving dynamics of failure and the need for adaptation. Ashish Dev Kapur underscored choosing a niche where consumer awareness already exists, saying that focusing on markets where some level of consumer education has occurred can make a massive difference. He also emphasized the significance of financial discipline, saying, "Top line is vanity, bottom line is sanity, but cash flow is reality."

The summit concluded with a engaging Q&A session, where students asked questions about business sustainability, brand differentiation, and market entry strategies. Ashish Dev Kapur commended our institution's efforts, stating, "The exposure and efforts here are commendable. You're helping students see the real world before they enter it."

The Fashion Business Management (FBM) program at our institution equips students with a holistic understanding of business strategy, brand positioning, supply chain management, and consumer engagement in the fashion sector. Events like the Entrepreneur Summit 2025 serve to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry experiences, allowing students to absorb practical knowledge from experienced professionals and cultivate the confidence to innovate and lead in the complex fashion industry landscape.
