Lithuania's Minister Pushes for EU Investment in Key Transport Projects

Lithuania's Minister of Transport and Communications, Juras Taminskas, has been advocating for enhanced investment in the country's transport infrastructure. He recently met with Magda Kopczyńska, Director-General for Mobility and Transport at the European Commission, to discuss this crucial matter.

Taminskas stressed the significance of bolstering Lithuania's transport infrastructure for regional security. He highlighted the need to fortify infrastructure security and resilience standards across the EU, especially for key projects like Rail Baltica and Via Baltica. These projects are vital for Lithuania, as they form part of the TEN-T network, which connects major EU cities with key transport hubs.

The minister welcomed the European Commission's proposal to increase investment in transport and military mobility in the EU's Eastern regions. This plan, set within the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027, aims to finance the improvement of missing cross-border links, including Rail Baltica, to complete the TEN-T network.

Taminskas' discussions with Kopczyńska underscore Lithuania's commitment to strengthening its transport infrastructure. The planned EU investments, if realised, will significantly enhance Lithuania's connectivity and security, benefiting both the country and the wider EU region.
