Local organization SMART Zambia, alongside MLGRD, distributes 2,000 computers with the intention of enhancing local administration services.

In a significant step towards enhancing service delivery and modernising governance, the Electronic Government Division of the SMART Zambia Institute, in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), has distributed 1,780 Dell laptops and 220 all-in-one desktop computers to 116 local authorities.

The distribution, valued at approximately K9 million, took place during a handover ceremony, with Acting SMART Zambia National Coordinator, Ms. Kasali Musenge, and MLGRD Permanent Secretary for Administration, Dr. Gabriel Pollen, reaffirming their respective organisations' commitment to driving the digital agenda.

Ms. Musenge noted that the adoption of digital tools is essential for improving service delivery, while Dr. Pollen emphasised that the investment in digital infrastructure demonstrates Zambia's resolve to modernise governance.

During her speech, Ms. Musenge also highlighted that the distributed Dell computers, equipped with advanced tracking features, are designed to promote accountability and ensure the devices are used exclusively for official government work. The devices, she added, would significantly improve operational efficiency.

Mr. Phiri, the MLGRD Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, expressed gratitude for the support from SMART Zambia. He stated that the computers would promote transparency and enable real-time service delivery, making the government more accessible and responsive.

The computers would also empower local authorities to deliver services more effectively, Mr. Phiri added, emphasising that the distribution is aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening interaction with citizens.

The distribution of over 2,000 Dell computers is part of the Government of Zambia's digital transformation agenda, aligning with the broader goals of Zambia's e-government strategy, according to Mr. Phiri.

The handover ceremony was attended by Information and Communications Technology Deputy Minister Jesse Mwaffo, who represented the Zambian government in the collaboration between the Electronic Government Division of the SMART Zambia Institute and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

The rollout of these tools marks a major milestone in Zambia's ongoing digital transformation journey, as the country continues to strive for efficient and effective service delivery.
