After graduating from Palo Verde High School in 1979, Luana attended the University of Arizona, where she graduated in 1985 with a degree in Home Economics. Her academic journey did not end there, as she later obtained her PhD in Master of Education from Lewis and Clark University in 1991.
Following her graduation, Luana joined the Peace Corps and spent three years in the Philippines, training teachers to work with hearing-impaired and special needs children. Her dedication to these children continued, as she later served as Project Manager for the building of a school in the Philippines [3].
In addition to her commitment to education, Luana was an artist and won ribbons at the county fair for her creations. Her love for art was evident in her life, and her work will be remembered by those who knew her.
Luana is survived by three sisters, Laura Buck, Robin Burkhart, and Valerie Ferguson, one brother David Powell, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother, and one brother, William G. Powell Jr. Her special friend is Marti Warren of Buffalo.
All are invited to attend the celebration of Luana Powell's life. The event will be held on August 9th at 2:00 PM at the Buffalo Senior Center, 671 West Fetterman in Buffalo. Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish and a photo of Luana, or a photo of themselves and Luana if they choose.
