Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub Survives Trump Cuts

MACH2's survival in the recent cuts is a positive step for the consortium's plans to support hydrogen-powered manufacturing and transportation in the region. Despite challenges, MACH2 continues to work with lawmakers to secure funding and move forward with its clean energy initiatives.

Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub Survives Trump Cuts

The Philadelphia area's Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2) has been spared from recent Trump administration cuts. This comes as a relief to the public-private consortium, which aims to fast-track commercial scale 'clean hydrogen' production using renewable energy.

MACH2 initially received $18.8 million in January 2021, with a potential federal cost share of up to $750 million. The Department of Energy (DOE) requested data and information from all seven planned hydrogen hubs, and the cuts were part of a deliberative evaluation process. Despite the uncertainty around funding, MACH2's Chief Operating Officer Manny Citron has been working with bipartisan lawmakers, including Sen. David McCormick, to support the program.

Another hydrogen hub, ARCH2, based in southwestern Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, also survived this round of cuts. However, the Trump administration targeted $7.5 billion cuts on the first day of the federal government shutdown, referring to it as the 'Green New Scam funding to fuel the Left's climate agenda.' This resulted in over $43 million for clean energy projects in Delaware and New Jersey being cut, along with two planned hydrogen hubs in California and Washington state.

MACH2's survival in the recent cuts is a positive step for the consortium's plans to support hydrogen-powered manufacturing and transportation in the region. Despite the challenges, MACH2 continues to work with lawmakers to secure funding and move forward with its clean energy initiatives.
