NAHB Launches Construction Career Initiative for Missouri, Alabama Youth
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has launched an initiative in Missouri and Alabama, supported by grants from the National Housing Endowment of the Boys & Girls Clubs. The project aims to introduce students to construction careers through hands-on learning experiences.
In Alabama, the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders collaborated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Alabama to build a shed on-site. The shed provides additional outdoor space for arts and crafts, thanks to NAHB's grant funding. About 15-20 GBAHB members volunteered their time and expertise to teach and work alongside students. Local companies also contributed materials and labor to the project.
Meanwhile, in Missouri, the HBA of Greater Springfield organized a three-day picnic table building project for teens from three Boys & Girls Club locations. Nineteen HBA Springfield members volunteered to lead student groups and provide tools. A local lumber company donated materials for the project, which was made possible by NAHB's grant funding and ready-made lesson plans.
These initiatives align with the home building industry's annual celebration of Careers in Construction Month. NAHB's Boys & Girls Club partnership funding enables local HBAs to introduce young people to careers in the trades, fostering a skilled workforce for the future.
