Online Harassment Crackdown in Schools: Brandenburg to Tackle Cyberbullying in Educational Spaces
In a significant move aimed at safeguarding the future of its young citizens, the Brandenburg state parliament has commissioned a concept to integrate protection measures against cybergrooming and other forms of online crime into school education. This decision comes in response to growing concerns about the safety of children online, with experts warning of sextortion and 'allowance dating via so-called sugar daddy platforms' in Germany.
The proposal, supported by the SPD and Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) factions, was announced by SPD education expert Katja Poschmann in the state parliament in Potsdam. Poschmann found the current figures alarming, as every fourth child in Germany has experienced sexually motivated approaches by adults on the internet.
The concept, expected to be presented by the end of 2026, will involve the integration of these topics into the school curriculum, with a focus on preparing students for these dangers. Teachers will be trained through further education to teach these vital subjects effectively.
