Over 1,700 New Customs Service Trainees Start, Largest Intake in Years
Over 1,700 young individuals embarked on their careers in the customs service on September 1, 2025. Among them were 46 trainees who started at the Main Customs Office Augsburg, including IT trainees beginning dual studies in administrative informatics. The head of the Hauptzollstelle Augsburg, Hans-Henning Kühne, oversaw this year's intake, which was the largest in recent history.
The trainees will undergo a two-year program to qualify as 'financial administrators' in the middle service. They will spend practical phases in various departments of the training main customs office and nearby offices. IT trainees will gain experience in different departments of the General Customs Directorate. After completing their training or dual studies, young customs officers can expect employment in diverse areas such as tax collection, special units, and customs investigation. Graduates of the administrative informatics program are preferably employed in IT forensics, digitalization of the customs administration, and various project tasks or database management.
Both dual study programs last three years and conclude with academic degrees of 'Bachelor of Law' (LL.B) or 'Bachelor of Science' (B.Sc.). The theoretical parts for higher service are completed at the Federal Administration School in Münster, while middle service trainees attend training centers in Leipzig, Rostock, Plessow, Sigmaringen, or Erfurt.
The customs service offers training and study places for a secure future in a large federal administration. Interested parties can apply until October 15, 2025. Upon completion, trainees can expect a wide range of career opportunities within the customs service, contributing to the efficient management of the country's customs and financial administration.
