Park University Honors Leadership Milestones in the 2022-23 Academic Year Through the Howell Awards
In a grand celebration on April 12, 2023, Park University honoured its exceptional students at the 28th annual Dr. Doris A. Howell Leadership Awards. The event, organised by the Office of Student Life and the Park Student Government Association, recognised students who have made significant contributions to the university community.
The Student Organization of the Year award was presented to the Park Student Activities Board, in recognition of its exceptional service and commitment to the university.
Individual students were also recognised for their outstanding achievements. Megan Townsend, a senior accounting and digital marketing major from Omaha, Nebraska, was a recipient of the Outstanding Class Member Award. Katelynn Harris, a freshman sport and exercise science major from Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Martin Roberson, a freshman secondary education/social science major from Kansas City, Missouri, both received the C.W. Bailey Award.
Lauren Leners, a senior business administration/accounting major from Parkville, Missouri, and Isabella Clark, a senior English and psychology major from Weston, Missouri, were both honoured with the Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Award. Angel Lebron, a senior Spanish major from Parkville, Missouri, also received this prestigious award.
Barbara Almeida, a senior fine art major from Uberlandia, Brazil, was another recipient of the Outstanding Class Member Award.
The Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards honour students who distinguish themselves as leaders regardless of position or title. This year, recipients included Annastasia Bair, a junior biology major from Omaha, Nebraska, Kevin Fagan, a junior business administration/accounting major from Kansas City, Missouri, and Adam Wilkins, senior nursing major from Kansas City, Mo.
Other awards presented included the Student Employee of the Year Award, given to Mark Trump, senior business administration/management major from Trenton, Mo. The Student Success and Impact Award was given to Naomi Matthews, Camp Pendleton (Calif.) Marine Corps Base Campus student success coach from Fallbrook, Calif.
The Park Family Award was presented to Alivia Zubrod, assistant professor of psychology, and the Faculty Newcomer of the Year Award was given to Thomas Ayres, assistant professor of psychology from St. Joseph, Mo.
The Dusing-Proudfoot Award was presented to Camille Abdel-Jawad, assistant professor of library instruction and outreach. The Student Organization Adviser of the Year Award was given to Stephanie Roehm, assistant teaching professor of nursing from Olathe, Kan.
The InterVarsity Christian Fellowship's Christmas Party was awarded Program of the Year. Lastly, the Toni Griggs Award was presented to Manisha Joshi, a sophomore nursing major from Kathmandu, Nepal.
The Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards are named after Dr. Doris Howell, a 1944 Park graduate who was an internationally renowned leader in pediatrics and hospice care.
