Tan Ting (Grace) Tang: The Visionary Pioneering Tech With Grit and Style

Meet Tan Ting (Grace) Tang, a dynamic luminary reshaping the tech landscape. With a rich tapestry of experiences spanning five industries, including aviation, hospitality, real estate, retail, and automotive, Grace brings a distinct perspective to the intersection of business, technology, and innovation.

As the visionary CEO of Am I Tech Enough, Grace is celebrated for promoting inclusive leadership and championing Non-tech Tech Talents (those from non-tech backgrounds but tech-savvy). She hosts the spirited "Am I Tech Enough Podcast," featuring inspiring tales of unconventional tech leaders.

Early Life and Global Explorer

Born and raised among the bustling streets of mainland China and Hong Kong SAR, Grace's life was filled with warmth and diverse friendships. Her vibrant neighborhood ignited a spark of curiosity within her, which manifested in imaginative role-play games where she often led as the "teacher."

At 18, Grace's thirst for knowledge and adventure took her beyond the familiar streets of Hong Kong. She spent a chilly winter in Boston improving her English skills and a summer in Vancouver participating in a global career development program. Grace's academic journey was a global affair, earning a bachelor's degree in Hong Kong SAR and a master's degree at Oxford. Her intellectual thirst didn't wane. She subsequently pursued eight additional certificates in various domains, including digital products, brand marketing, AI, and coaching. Driven by a passion to make a significant impact, Grace continues her continual pursuit of knowledge and inspiring others.

"After turning 24, my career took me through five diverse industries - Airlines, Hospitality, Real Estate, Retail, and Automotive. Six years of diverse experience in Fortune 500 companies and innovative environments taught me the power of collaboration and global impact. Now, at 30, I find myself scaling new heights in the heart of the Middle East, embarking on a new adventure filled with endless possibilities. When AI technology, unconventional talents, and ambitious visions converge to shape the future, the electric energy here can't be ignored, and I can't help but feel a deep sense of purpose as I forge ahead." -Grace

Am I Tech Enough: A Game-Changer for Non-Tech Talents

As a linguistics graduate, Grace never imagined a career in tech. However, she quickly realized that her unique perspective and skills held value in the tech world. The emergence of cross-functional collaboration and AI has democratized technology, enabling diverse professionals like Grace to contribute and make an impact. She explains, "Now, if someone asks if I can lead a team to launch a system, craft a customer strategy for a digital product, or develop a product strategy for a digital service, my answer will always be an emphatic yes."

2023 marked the rise of Generative AI, proving that tech is no longer the exclusive domain of computer science graduates. The Non-tech Tech Talents, individuals from diverse backgrounds with business acumen and teamwork skills, will be at the forefront of innovation. However, traditional tech hiring practices often present barriers to entry for those without traditional tech education. Grace recognized this issue and found her calling. She shares, "Am I Tech Enough came out of this very issue. Our mission is to become

#1 AI-powered community for Non-tech Tech Talents, providing them with inspiration, opportunities, and a sense of belonging."

The first major milestone for Am I Tech Enough is the launch of the "Am I Tech Enough Podcast," a series focusing on the tales of unconventional tech leaders who hail from non-tech backgrounds. The inaugural episode will air in October 2024, aiming to foster awareness, forge a community for Non-tech Tech Talents, and inspire change. Looking ahead, the organization is actively seeking investors, partners, and sponsors to collaborate on redefining the meaning of tech literacy and creating a better world with tech.

The ABCDEF of Leadership: Grace's Philosophy

Grace's leadership approach is founded on six core values that cultivate a high-performing and collaborative team environment. In her experience, these values are the keys to successful leadership in any industry. She lists, "After years of working across five industries and serving under more than 10 managers, I've witnessed firsthand what fosters thriving leadership - and what hinders it. Over time, I have developed my leadership philosophy. At the core of it all are the values I embody, the ABCDEF of Leadership: Authentic, Bold, Creative, Diverse, Empowering, and Fun."

Authenticity empowers individuals to be their true selves, fostering optimal performance. Boldness encourages risks, challenges norms, and drives innovation. Creativity fuels out-of-the-box thinking for effective problem-solving. Diversity brings diverse perspectives together, fortifying ideas and solutions. Empowerment trusts teams with autonomy, fostering pride and ownership.

"Ultimately, fun ties it all together - when we enjoy our work, we perform better, and the results show. These values, which I call ABCDEF, serve as the foundation for my leadership philosophy. Each of these values plays a critical role in establishing a culture where people from all walks of life can work together, collaborate, and create meaningful change, all while having fun along the way." -Grace

Words of Wisdom: Aspiring Professionals

Aspiring professionals will find valuable insights in Grace's words. Addressing them, she shares a poem by Mary Oliver:

"Who created the world? The swan, and the black bear? The grasshopper? This grasshopper, the one who leaped out of the grass, the one who nibbled sugar from my hand, the one who played stranger in my garden, the creature I observed only for a single moment, before she disappeared forever - who was she? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"
