School construction at Realschule Altlünen officially completed and unveiled
The city of Lünen is delighted to announce the official inauguration of its newly constructed Realschule Altluënen on September 3, 2025. The modern building, a KfW-40-EE construction, boasts up-to-date pedagogical facilities and sustainable features, making it an investment in the future of education.
Mayor Jürgen Kleine-Frauns emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "This is an investment in safety, quality, and the future of our children." The new building, which required construction due to the old school building not meeting fire safety regulations, offers a comprehensive barrier-free concept, including an elevator, ground-level access, and guidance systems, to ensure accessibility for all students.
The new construction features state-of-the-art digital equipment, differentiation rooms, an auditorium, cafeteria, and a stage for theater, concerts, and communal singing. A fixed place has been allocated for democracy education, with annual projects about the 9th of November being prepared in different grade levels.
The construction process, however, faced challenges. Delays, labor shortages, and legal disputes inevitably led to additional costs, causing the initially calculated cost of 13.5 million euros to exceed 30 million euros. Despite these cost increases and extended construction time, the city remains satisfied with the successful completion of the project.
Kleine-Frauns acknowledged the increased costs and attributed them largely to the framework conditions under which municipalities build. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to all those involved in the planning, construction, administration, and teaching staff of the new building.
The new building incorporates a photovoltaic system, battery storage, heat recovery, and a green roof, making it an environmentally friendly addition to the city of Lünen. The search results do not provide detailed information about the individual contributions to the total costs of over 30 million euros for the new construction of the Realschule Altlünen, nor about changes to the construction period.
In conclusion, the new construction of Lünen's Realschule Altluënen is a significant step forward in providing quality education in a safe and modern environment. The investment in this new building is seen as an investment in education that will pay off for generations to come.
