The Commission has opted to extend a Community pledge to the EIB, allowing them to fund their research and development endeavors.

In the city of Ingolstadt, district chairman Thomas Pfeil and regional representative for club and volunteer work Ursula Hildebrand recently conducted an inspection of the school route at Christoph Kolumbus Elementary School.

During their visit, Pfeil reported several dangerous scenes, with many individuals disregarding traffic rules, sometimes crossing the street without looking left or right, and moving at speeds that could have resulted in severe injuries.

Upon leaving, three vehicles were noted to have turned, and seven drove backwards unnecessarily. Pfeil emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules, particularly in the context of protecting children who often struggle to estimate speed and distances accurately.

The inspection at Christoph Kolumbus Elementary School revealed alarming findings, with only 4 out of 39 parent taxis stopping correctly. This result was particularly concerning, as a fourth parked car joined between 7 and 8 am, making the parent bus stop a parking lot.

Three vehicles were observed standing in the designated parent bus stop area between 7 am and 8 am, causing difficulties for other parents to stop. The behavior of parents at the elementary school in Ungernederstraße was particularly concerning, with 28 children getting out on the sidewalk side (71.8%), and 11 on the more dangerous road side.

The result for infrastructure at Christoph Kolumbus Elementary School was "satisfactory," with 9.5 out of 14 possible points. However, the overall verdict for parent taxis at the school was "insufficient."

Since April 1st, approximately 700 volunteers from the Auto Club Europa have been assessing school routes nationwide as part of the club initiative "Easy Going." The results of the school route checks will be announced in early October, and all information about the action, including the results, can be found on the internet at www.ace-clubinitiative.de.

Ursula Hildebrand stated that the 10.3% who did it right was the worst score of all checks in southern Bavaria. She also warned that parking in no-parking zones brings further dangers, as children running between parked vehicles onto the road are often overlooked.

It is crucial for parents and drivers to prioritize safety, particularly around schools, to ensure the well-being of children. The "Easy Going" initiative aims to promote this by focusing on improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, reducing traffic hazards around schools, and encouraging active mobility for children.

Education-and-self-development and learning are vital in promoting awareness about traffic safety and adherence to rules, particularly for parents and drivers near schools. The "Easy Going" initiative, focusing on pedestrian and bicycle safety, aims to educate and facilitate learning about the importance of prioritizing safety in these areas, reducing traffic hazards, and encouraging active mobility for children.
