UAE Offers Free Year of Advanced AI Tools to University Students
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched an innovative initiative to integrate AI deeply into higher education. In collaboration with Google, the UAE is offering a free, year-long subscription to Google Drive's Gemini Pro plan for all university students aged 18 and above. This move aligns with the UAE's National AI Strategy to create an AI-ready talent base.
The subscription, available until December 9, 2025, includes a range of advanced AI tools. 'NotebookLM' serves as a 'thinking companion', helping students organise thoughts and generate audio/video overviews. Additionally, 'Deep Research' enables students to summarise and synthesise insights from multiple sources. Students will also benefit from 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail.
The complimentary Google Drive Gemini 2.5 Pro subscription provides access to Google's most capable AI model, ideal for complex research. Moreover, the Gemini app offers 'Veo 3', a creative tool for generating short videos with custom audio from text prompts or images.
By providing access to these advanced generative AI tools, the UAE aims to equip its youth with cutting-edge technology, fostering innovation, enhancing research, and preparing graduates for a tech-driven job market. Students can register for the free service using their personal email accounts.
