UK Launches Cyber Team Competition to Inspire Next Gen of Cybersecurity Experts
The UK Government's Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), alongside partners like Plexal, Deloitte, and CSIT, has launched the UK Cyber Team Competition. Aiming to inspire 18-25-year-olds to pursue careers in cybersecurity, the competition addresses the nation's skills shortage in the field.
The UK Cyber Team Competition involves hands-on exercises in areas such as cryptography, digital forensics, web exploitation, and network security. Top performers will earn a place on the UK Cyber Team, representing the UK in international events. The competition is part of the government's efforts to tackle the skills gap, as highlighted in reports like the 2021 National Cyber Strategy and the 2024 Cyber Security Skills in the UK Labour Market report.
Qualifiers will receive advanced training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to build a career in cybersecurity. The competition is delivered in partnership with the SANS Institute, and applications can be made via their website.
The UK Cyber Team Competition offers young people the chance to excel in cybersecurity, with the potential to represent the UK internationally. By addressing the skills shortage, the competition supports the government's goal of a more cyber-resilient nation.
