UKE Secures €1.6M for Open-Access Publishing
The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is set to receive around 1.6 million euros from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to fund open-access publications from 2023. This move aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research's push for open-access as the future of academic publishing.
Open Access, a broad term covering scientific publications, educational resources, and software, aims to make research findings more visible and accessible to all. At UKE, this initiative will be supported through researcher grants to cover the often-high costs associated with open-access publishing.
The DFG will fund this project over three years, starting in 2023. The person who spearheaded this project alongside the Prodean for Research and the Medical Central Library remains unnamed in the provided sources.
With this funding, UKE will be able to make its research outputs more accessible, fostering greater visibility and collaboration in the academic community. The DFG's investment reflects the growing importance of open-access publishing in the research landscape.
