University named Jack MacLennan to assume new positions at Park University
Jack MacLennan, a distinguished academic and accomplished administrator, has been appointed as the senior director for strategic initiatives and communications, and special assistant to the president for governance at Park University, effective from August 1, 2024.
Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, MacLennan embarked on his academic journey, earning a Bachelor of Arts with honours in political science from St. Thomas University. He furthered his studies at the University of Windsor, where he received a Master of Arts degree in political science, and at Carleton University, where he earned a doctorate degree in political science. In 2020, he was awarded the President's Award for Teaching Excellence, a testament to his dedication to education.
MacLennan joined Park University in 2017, where he quickly made his mark. He served as the graduate program director for the national security studies program for the past five years, and during the 2022-23 academic year, he also served as the special assistant to the provost for academic programs at Park University.
In his previous roles, MacLennan demonstrated his leadership skills, serving as the Faculty Senate president from 2020-2022 and its vice president from 2019-20. He will continue to leverage these skills in his new position, supporting Park's strategic planning process and leading the University's strategic communications efforts.
In addition to his duties, MacLennan will serve as chair of the University Commission on Shared Governance, working closely with faculty and staff leaders to support key stakeholders in the development, communication, and implementation of plans for the future of Park University.
The Dusing-Proudfoot Award, which MacLennan received in April, honours outstanding contributions by a Park faculty or staff member. This prestigious recognition further underscores MacLennan's commitment to the University and its community.
As MacLennan prepares to take on his new role, he looks forward to contributing to Park University's ongoing success and growth.
In his new position as senior director for strategic initiatives and communications, and special assistant to the president for governance at Park University, Jack MacLennan will bring his extensive education and self-development in political science to the table, furthering his contributions to the academic realm. His commitment to the University is evident through his receipt of the President's Award for Teaching Excellence and the Dusing-Proudfoot Award, and he will continue to apply these qualities to his future roles in university politics and general news.
