Updated look for the BEKI unveiled
Baden-Württemberg Preschools Embrace Nutrition Education with BEKI Certificate
Baden-Württemberg, a region in southwest Germany, is making strides in promoting balanced and enjoyable eating behaviors among young children. Over 530 preschools in the region have obtained the BEKI certificate, a testament to their commitment to nutrition education in everyday life.
The BEKI initiative, which has been active since 1977, is led by the Landesinitiative BEKI, a professional nutrition education initiative. The program is carried out by freelance nutrition experts, known as BEKI speakers. These experts work tirelessly to educate children, parents, and professionals about the importance of good nutrition.
Minister Peter Hauk, who assumed office as Minister for Nutrition, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection in Baden-Württemberg in May 2016, expressed pride in the number of preschools with the BEKI certificate. He welcomed every additional preschool that commits to a balanced diet, stating that it is a significant step towards fostering nutritional competencies among professionals and parents as role models.
The BEKI portfolio includes a variety of activities. These range from parent events and school lessons to action days and training for pedagogical and household professionals, teachers, and childminders. The initiative targets children from the sixth month of life up to the sixth grade. Each year, over 50,000 children, parents, and professionals are informed by BEKI in preschools, schools, and childminding facilities.
In celebration of its 45th anniversary, the BEKI logo, a smiling pear, has been redesigned. The new logo is in fresh state yellow and is part of the statewide umbrella brand "The Whole State at the Table. Good Nutrition for Baden-Württemberg". This redesign signifies the continued commitment of the BEKI initiative to promoting good nutrition and healthy eating habits among the youngest members of the community.
The success of the BEKI initiative lies in its ability to educate and empower professionals and parents to be role models for healthy eating habits. As more preschools in Baden-Württemberg obtain the BEKI certificate, the region is moving towards a future where good nutrition is a priority for all.
