Walmart Plus: A Worthy Investment?

In a move to enhance its customer offering, Walmart+, the retail giant's subscription service, now provides a host of perks and savings that could prove enticing to many. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect.

Firstly, Walmart+ members gain access to Peacock Premium for free, offering a potential annual savings of $109.99. Additionally, members can choose between a free Paramount Plus Essential plan or Peacock Premium, providing a choice of streaming services.

For those who frequently shop online, Walmart+ offers fast, free shipping with no order minimum, a feature that could save at least $6.99 per order on shipping fees, assuming orders are less than $35. Compared to Instacart, this could result in annual savings of $99 on grocery delivery fees, excluding service fees or tips.

The savings on groceries, however, can be tricky to calculate. The benefits only apply to items in stock at Walmart, and may not be beneficial for loyal Whole Foods shoppers or Instacart Plus members who regularly order from multiple stores.

Walmart+ members can also enjoy significant savings on fuel. By utilising over 13,000 Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, and Murphy stations, members could save an estimated average of $43.30 per year, based on the Department of Energy's estimate that the average car uses 433 gallons of gas per year.

Moreover, Walmart+ members can save on gas with a potential annual savings of $99 on Pawp virtual pet care membership. For those on Medicaid or eligible government assistance programs, Walmart Plus offers special benefits, including discounts on prescriptions, fuel savings, and free or discounted delivery services, through Walmart Plus Assist, which costs $49 per year.

New members can try out the benefits for 30 days at no cost, thanks to a free trial offer. For those who don't currently have groceries delivered on a regular basis, the free same-day grocery delivery perk may not save money but offer convenience instead.

Lastly, compared to Amazon Prime, Walmart Plus could save $119.88 on grocery delivery fees each year, assuming the same $35 minimum threshold and $9.99 additional monthly charge. With Walmart+ costing $12.95 per month or $98 per year, these savings could quickly add up, making it an attractive option for many.
