Yakutia Celebrates 85 Years of Vocational Education
Today marks a significant milestone in Yakutia's history of secondary professional education. The 85th anniversary of the system was celebrated in Yakutsk, with greetings from President Vladimir Putin and a video message from Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov. The event brought together representatives from all colleges and technical schools in Yakutia.
The vocational education system in Yakutia was established in 1930 to support industrialization and train skilled workers for the region's economic needs. Initially, mass courses were organized to train rural mechanizers. By the 1960s, there were 11 professional education institutions, training thousands of workers in various specialties.
The development of river transport in the mid-1950s led to the establishment of specialized schools. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, schools like Tyungyulunskoe, Nyrbinskoe, and Namskoe PTTUs were opened to train specialists in agriculture. A training combine was also established to train shoemakers and seamstresses, later reorganized into a Professional and Technical School.
Today, there are 42 secondary professional education institutions in Yakutia, with around 25,000 students. The Youth Festival 'SPOfest-2025' celebrated this anniversary, highlighting the system's growth and impact on Yakutia's workforce.
The 85th anniversary of Yakutia's secondary professional education system is a testament to its enduring importance and growth. From training rural mechanizers in the 1930s to educating thousands of students today, the system continues to support Yakutia's economic needs and workforce development.
