Youth Achievement Enhancement: The USA Clay Target League in Collaboration with NRA Foundation

The USA Clay Target League, America's largest youth clay target shooting sport program, continues to make a significant impact on the lives of tens of thousands of students each year. With over 53,000 student athletes participating in the previous year, the league is providing opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable.

The league, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to encouraging an interest in outdoor activities and preserving public lands. John Nelson, its President, leads the organisation with a focus on safety, marksmanship, and personal development.

The NRA Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting the league's state and national tournaments, as well as funding many local teams. In 2024, over $7.5 million was awarded by the NRA Foundation to youth programs for more than 2,060 grants. This investment is part of the Foundation's mission to develop the next generation of America's leaders.

One such recipient of the NRA Foundation's generosity is Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. In 2024, they received grant funds for their clay target shooting program. However, there is no information available about who awarded the grant.

The programme at Lake Land College, under the guidance of head instructor Joshua Fulk and founder of the St. Elmo Brownstown High School Clay Target Team, emphasises the importance of student determination. Fulk believes that the programme not only teaches shooting skills but also instils a sense of responsibility and perseverance in the students.

Participation in the USA Clay Target League is associated with positive outcomes. Students often report better grades, higher graduation rates, and an increased likelihood of attending college. Ruthann Sprague, the assistant director of NRA Foundation Grant Outreach and Strategy, expresses pride in the support of the USA Clay Target League and their youth programs.

In 2024, over 1,800 high school, college, and homeschool teams were involved in the USA Clay Target League. A significant number of these participants were first-time clay-target shooters, demonstrating the league's success in introducing newcomers to the sport.

As the USA Clay Target League continues to grow, it remains committed to its mission of providing opportunities for young people and fostering a love for outdoor activities and responsible gun ownership.
